Anyone got one at the moment? Im thinkin of changing jobs (Currently in a mind numbing 9-6 desk job) and id love to branch out a bit...

Not really interested in instructing or yard management - would like to get trained in an area that i would have my own business, be working with horses (possible mobile) and have the opportunity to expand in the future...

Maybe im in dream land and that everyone in the country would like a job like that but i can dream

Just sick of being indoors... I come from the country and grew up on a relatively big farm, i was always keen animal enthuiast (not just horses) and worked on the farm till i had to go to college, im pretty creative and would love to indulge the 'Picean' side of me that iv been keeping restricted for so long :)

I guess my question is 'is there anyone here that has or knows of alternative equestrian/animal related carreers?

I'd like to become a saddle fitter myself. Theres hardly any in Ireland, and I believe that an awful lot of problems are caused by badly fitting saddles. My own mare was ridden in a too-narrow saddle by me for years, resulting in nappy behaviour, bucking into canter, grumpy to tack up, and impossible to work nicely on the flat....
Changing her saddle has brought about a complete change in attitude.

Fits i aagree there about the saddle thing. Very few people know how to choose the right saddle including myself. Bendi-horse: There is a friend of mine who was in a similar situation as you... She branched out and did a course in Equine Chiropractory (sic?). There are some cowboys around who wave crystals and pull and tug but very few who know what they are at. And IMO a great source of horse injuries stems from back pain

Also know someone who is an equine dentist. Gets paid loads!!

Another cause of the many so-called nasty/dangerous horses.. Vets are also crap at doing teeth in my experience. Got an edt out once, and he did a fantastic job on my horses...

Most horsey related jobs (actually looking after them) are fairly badly paid so probably better of to get a qualification and specialise in an area such as one of the ones listed above to have a better standard of living. I was with my horse once getting his teeth done and it was painful looking :(
