Im leaving New Zealand for Hong Kong at the end of the week and need to book a hotel in Hong Kong. We`ll be arriving in Hong Kong at 6:30 in the evening.

What area is the airport in and what area should i be looking for the hotel to be in? Can anyone name a good hotel to use, dont need top of the range stuff, a 3star will probably do. We`ll be needing it for 3days/nights.

I checked the Sticky with hotel site but i cant find them properly and dont know what area i need to be searching for by location. Cheers!

Ok, i booked the "Harbour Plaza" 4star hotel as we dont know when we`ll get to the internet again. It said they`ll email us a confirmation within 48hrs and they can txt us confirmation of the booking too. So hopefully we`ll get it.

Any comments on the hotel welcome.

Been to Hong Kong quite a few times. I don't think there is anything near the airport although any time I've been there I have jumped straight on the airport express to Kowloon or central. Journey time is around 30 mins and it's reasonably cheap. Loads of reasonably priced hotels, I normally stay at the excelsior on causeway bay or the eaton hotel on nathan road, Kowloon.

EDIT : Out of interest I just looked on the mtr website and a return train from the airport to central and 3 days unlimited travel on the mtr is £17 stg

There seem to be a few "Harbour Plaza" hotels. None of them is located very centrally (from a tourist point-of-view) but public transport is so good you will be wherever you want to go in minutes anyway. Hotel shuttles will see you to the airport train and other useful places, I presume.

You were right not to stay at the airport. That only makes sense if you want a quick and easy getaway on a flight the next morning.

absolutely gorgeous hotel, bit out from the centre in mongkok but right on top of a metro station so access is very easy. you can usually find good deals for it too.

Try this place, I stayed there last month and would recommend it. Its not too far from the airport in a taxi.

Anyone know what kind of prices to be expecting for an average hotel, nothing fancy? Heading of on a world tour and our first destination is Hong Kong so we kind of want to ease ourselves into the backpacker budget lifestyle ;)
