    Hi,

I was offered PS and Philosophy in TCD today and was wondering if anyone could tell me how many places were actually offered?

    Thanks,
    Peter

Check the prospectus (should be on tcd.ie) it used to have the number for each course in it.

Its usually around 15-20,I think there were 18 the year I started it.

I'm fairly sure that last year there were a ridiculously low amount of places in philpol, 8 or 9 if I recall correctly. I'm sure this has little-to-no bearing on this year's number, but it is a small course in any case.

Honestly, of all the things you could worry about, making friends in college really isn't up there. You'll probably find that at the end of 4 years you'll know more people (probably including lecturers) then you know what to do with :)

As was said in another thread, the easiest time to get to know people is in Freshers' Week or your first week of lecturers. 99% of people are in the same boat and know no-one, and you'll find everyone very chatty!

Yeah that's entirely true. I'm in a fairly small course too (25 or so) and I'd know nearly everyone reasonably well. If there aren't that many people in the course, it's a nice easy way to start up a conversation in the first few weeks (What subjects did you pick? Wtf is going on with Trinity's ****ty organising? etc.) but there'll be loads of other people in lectures/societies/friends-of-friends/drunken nights out so in the long run the size of your course doesn't make that much difference.

    Hey,
I'm a first year going into this program as well-but I think, based on what I hear from other freshmen, it will be very easy to make friends.. especially outside your faculty. Lookin' forward to seeing you all!
