When a player makes a bet you announce how much the bet is but when a player pushes all in you dont count it unless someone asks for a count, why should it be any different just because the player is all in?

I prefer to know, thus when I move all in, 9/10 I count the chips myself there and then, unless I clearly cover whoever else is left in the hand. I agree with you for what it's worth Oscar.

I think the dealer should count and declare it just like any other bet. I understand that some people interpret the rules to mean its not counted unless requested which I think is retarded but happens.

Its a pretty standard ruling worldwide Tom, though Im not sure what the rule book writers say on it. The argument given is that the dealer announcing the amount is encouraging a call.

a lot of places in America the dealers do not count the bet at all unless asked, or the bettor announces the number and the dealer repeats it.

I agree you should either count it in both situations or neither.

It speeds up the game in the latter stages though, if the dealer is constantly counting all-ins when the player has no intention of calling its just wasting time.

I prefer the way it is, just request a count if you want one.
