Yes blueface can ring US Mobiles, atlerast I'm pretty sure it can as I called one a few months back

No idea of rates, best to wait on blueface to get back to you

Same as landline calls to USA !
That is, 2.6 c per min for Hawaii & Alaska and 1.4 c per min for 48 other states.

FYI, US mobile numbers aren't any different from landline numbers. The cost to call them is the same as calling a landline in the same area code.

Yeah, the USA really messed up on that one. There is no special prefix for USA Mobiles [like 08* for here]. So the owner of the USA mobile has to make up the difference in call cost for a given call.

    Open to correction.

I guess they kinda did, but in another way kinda didn't... from memory with the PCS system the mobile numbers just had a geographical extension as you said ( eg 519 for onatrio ) but if you call another 519 number you would be charged more if they were not in the 519 area, ie roaming in another province ect....

it is cool that there's no distinction made between land lines and mobiles :)

I would tend to disagree. Because the phone owner where getting charged for inbound calls for non local area codes, they tended to leave their phone off until they needeed to make a call. Probably why pagers made it big over there too. Phone off, page me and I'll call you back.

    Going a bit OT though

On a percentage basis - and for a big modern industrial country like US - what would the extra cost be for a cellphone call ?
Is it that much more than the cost of a landline call?

Not sure about mobile costs, but when I was in the US I found payphone costs bloody insane, would cost like $4-5 to ring Ireland for 2min, thats crazy compared to phone costs in Europe...for once I wished I had been using a Eircom line :)

    D.

It's dirt cheap. My daughter is in the States and I could call her on Blueface for some 25 minutes for about 50c (yes - fifty cent). But beware - at the far end it's a whole different kettle of fish.

She bought an American PAYG phone, but (as T-Mobile confirmed) in parts of the States (because of the sheer size of the place) you are charged roaming costs, i.e. to receive the call.

And we talk about costs in Ireland............

Wow! As I've said already my daughter is in the US at the moment, but she found a phone card which gives her 600 International minutes for about $10.
She uses it from a PayPhone.

i live over here in the US and its very cheap to call ireland. I have a PAYG fone and it only costs about 15cents a minute to call an irish landline from my mobile.
Im on the Net10 network if its any help.

I meant there is no difference in charges for calling land lines / mobiles from this end..

I wasn't talking about the person receiving the call, yes they would be charged roaming charges if they are in a different state / area code...

But look - if the US mobile companies can make a decent profit from charges that are mostly (as most mobile calls will be within the state) the same as local call charges, then we Europeans who pay 10-12 times the cost of a local call are being screwn alive.
I reckon EU mobile calls should be downed to 5c a minute, peak.
I reckon a mobile call cost-analysis would show that the mobile companies would still be very profitable at that . . .
