I'm supposed to be heading to Cancun in 3 weeks and really nervous not with listening to all the weather reports regarding Hurricane Dean. It won't be clear until morning whether or not Cancun shall be hit?

Anyone have any advise about heading to Mexico during hurricane season?

Cancun will be missed by this one - will get strong winds but nothing that will do any serious damage apart from beach erosion. This can be an issue for some people who arrive to their hotel and find the beach is lined with sand bags. I would say check ahead if you have already booked a hotel and find out what condition the beach is in after it passes.
check out www.playa.info its a very good forum hosted by locals and people who go there every year and will be able to tell you what state the beach at your hotel is in. (For what its worth Cancun is fine for a day or 2 but you should head to Playa del carmen about 30 mins away - its a fantastic spot.)

In terms of further hurricanes keep an eye on www.weather.com, these things form out in the Atlantic at least 7-10 days in advance of hitting land in that area so you can always cancel if something looks like it is picking up steam.

    Thanks for that!

I've been keeping an eye on different forums and news channels and it seems to be emerging that Cancun has been spared!

Well seeing as Cancun airport was half closed and in the process of
being rebuilt after Hurricane Wilma last time I flew through, the last
thing they need is a category 5 hurricane hitting it this year.

I also agree that Playa del Carmen is much more 'civilised' than Cancun.
