sound problems

    Hey,
    I run fedora core 6 and am having problems with recording. My microphone works with skype but when i try and record with audacity or KRec it just crashes. Any help?

    you would need to give more information.
    1) audio card - use 'lspci' to find it
    2) are you using arts , whats the output of ps -ef |grep art

    try alsamixer , is the mic mute maybe ? (use tab to jump screens)

    to test if you mic is really working use arecord
    and aplay to playback.

    arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav foobar.wav
    aplay foobar.wav

    if that works then your audio is fundamentally ok
    if not, you have a lowlevel proble,. perhaps modules etc.
    Anyway need more info to help.

    I ended up doing a fresh install! I tried deiban and hated it so I justed started anew!
    REMEBER TO BACKUP!!
