sorry if this makes me a complete pleb asking this but what does this mean on the specs for the 40D

    • ISO 100 - 1600
    • ISO 3200 (Enhanced H)

Is there an option of iso 3200 on the camera or do you achieve this by some other means?

it's a custom function.. when turned on it allows you to select 3200 (H), when turned off the highest you can go is 1600

what is the point of this? Why not just have 3200 as the highest setting? Is it like being able to turn your amps up to 11?

I would say its disabled by default to protect someone from inadvertently selecting it. With custom functions you can also disable certain apertures on the camera too (among other things) - there is a lot of flexibility there for a very customised setup.

Here are the 1d custom and personal ones if your bored - I believe the whole 1 series are interchangeable ie the new ones dont take the number of exsisting ones and they all build up over time.

The 3200 ISO isn't supported natively, the camera just under exposes by a stop and interpolates. That's why they have it kind of tagged on as a custom function.
Not quite sure why but they obviously have their reasons.

    Quality.

If you've ever seen a 2 gig scan from 120 film... Well. It's impressive.

2 new cameras are supposed to be announced by Nikon on Thursday 23rd August. There is talk of a full frame D3 and DX D300. Lots of talk about it on the web but we won't know for definite until Thursday.

In 1991 Kodak released the first commercially available digital SLR, the Kodak DCS-100.

 At Photokina in 1986, Nikon revealed a prototype analog electronic still SLR camera

And as far as I have gathered ,the Kodak released unit used a nikon body etc.

    But that's all I've read
