I did an upgrade from 98se to xp about six months ago, everything is going fine.

But ive noticed in the add/remove window that there a "generic flash disc windows 98 driver" file that takes up 1.5gb.

What i'd like to know is ...do i need this??....is it safe to delete ??

If in doubt just rename it (or move elsewhere) and see how you get on for a while. It may very well contain drivers for multiple usb devices but it seems way too big in my opinion for something like that.

The add/remove dialog box is often very inaccurate when it comes to judging these sizes. Patches and updates are often stated to be taking the disk space of itself plus the original app.

I'd leave it alone unless you find some x00+ MB file associated with it.

Edit- Actually no, XP should be using it's own USB drivers so it should not be in use. I would doubt that it will free up the advertised space or anything like it.

Oops didn't notice the "add/remove" bit of the original post.. I was dealing with it as a single file. Ressem's advice sounds better in this case.
