Never got around to seeing this film when it was in the cinema, but took it home from work today to have a look. I thought it was a very good film. When I first saw Justin Timberlake was in it, I cringed, but I have to say his acting was very good and quite moving. I wish Bruce Willis and Olivia Wilde had had bigger roles in the film, but that would probably be my only criticism.
If it hadn't of been based on a true story, I don't think I would be such a big fan, but it was really quite a moving film. I loved seeing Vincent Kartheier in the film aswell, since I haven't seen him in anything since 'Angel'.

Yeah it's a funny one...When I first seen it I thought it was ****e. All over the place, without rhyme or reason, I hated all the characters and thought they were stupid(With the possible exception of timberlakes character) and I thought the whole thing was just a bit bizare.

But I then went and did a bit of research into the true events and the more I learned and the more I thought about it the film did really capture the madness of the situation and the descent from normality to disaster.

Think Ill give it another watch but on reflection it was a lot better than I thought at first.

Timberlake really did seem to steal the show. I think he should consider doing more serious movies like this than the ridiculous chickflicks/kids movies he has done in the past.

    Really enjoyed this flick.

    Wasn't what I expected.

Ye I don't think it would have been as good if it was not a true story. It just made it a lot sadder. Justin Timberlake was surprisingly good and the kid who played Zach was great I thought. Really had the innocent thing down.

Didnt have much hope at all for this film when I heard Justin was in it but I was pleasantly surprised.

Ben Foster was the best in it imo. Too bad he wasn't in it more.

...sorry to drag up an old thread. Just watched this for the first time. Had very low expectations but it turned out to be really good. I enjoyed it muchly Yea may be interested to know that the trial Jesse James Hollywood begins in February. He may get the death penalty if convicted.

I recommend the movie for those who haven't seen it though.

Heres a detailed account of the true story with pictures of everyone involved.

He wasn't bad in it at all was he. The 'bathroom' scene with Foster was horrible though! Big departure from 'the notebook' for Cassevetes !

Ben foster stole the show in my opinion, I was fairly dissapointed with how he just dissapeared out of the movie without cracking some more skull till I found it was based on a through story.

Bought this for €3.99 in HMV and thought it was very good.
I was shocked at the murder scene
I thought it was very powerful and since I hadn't heard about the real events I didn't know what to expect. The way Timberlake was acting
I thought they were going to let Zack go
And no good film would be complete without two hot girls in a swimming pool :D

    It's not a book. :pac:

Emile Hirsch and Justin Timberlake were both excellent in this. Wasn't too mad on whoever was playing the kid (can't remember the name now). There's a kind of low-level uneasiness throughout the film and the foreshadowing in the build up to the almost dream like
    Murder scene
was pretty well done. I agree this wouldn't have been even half as effective a movie if it wasn't based on a real event.

Before reading this thread I had no idea it was based on a true story. How sad, I saw it in the cinema and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Think JTs acting needs a little work though...!

Sorry to drag up this old thread (again!) but saw this last night and thought it was a great film. I remember hearing about this when it first came out and thinking 'Justin Timberlake?? No thanks!' but I thought he was the best in it, really surprised me.

    I also found the
    murder scene
really moving and sad... Really felt bad for the poor kid:(
