me thinks that when TBMC reopens as the newly named Cargo the days of local / small-medium pull bands playing the Music Centre are over which is a shame cos its one of the best venues a band can play in Dublin in terms of facilities etc
...it has emerged that Reynolds, with nightclub and restaurant owner Eoin Foyle, are investing €700,000 in redeveloping the Temple Bar Music Centre in Dublin into a 750-seater venue.
The revamped music venue will be renamed Cargo and will open next month. Reynolds and Foyle purchased a 50 per cent stake in the venue from recording studio boss Paddy Dunning, who has owned the centre for ten years.

    :(:(:(

But...the Misfits are supposed to be playing there in October....Misfits...seating?

What a cr@p name they've picked too. Cargo...wtf is that!?!

I've seen many a great local band in the Music Center and I agree that its probably one of the best smaller venues in Dublin. Great atmosphere in there IMO. :)

why does this necessarily signal the end of small/medium bands playing here?

because IMO it is obviously being refurbished to compete with bigger venues to pull higher profile acts instead of lower pull bands which make less money at the bar etc.

at the end of the day an investor doesnt fork out €750,000 in a venue and not be planning to up the standing of the place or upping the price which will simply put it out of the price range of many bands with a small-medium pull.
