Well it really depends on where you go. Stick to Asia and South America, then you could get by on 500 a month, add in Oz/Canada/U.S/NZ and mulitply that by two (at least)

Im thinking 2 months in SE asia, 6months in AUS/NZ, then 2 months in South America.

Thats a rough guide to my itinery.

Have access to about 7g and hope to do a bit of work and live really cheap. Is it doable?

If you want my opinion, I'd cut out half of the time in Oz & NZ, unless you specifically want to travel there? It'll cost you a fortune and the casual work doesn't pay a whole lot especially in NZ, you'll just make enough to break even by the time you buy a few beers, pay for accommodation etc.

I've said it before - you'll experience so much more for your money in Asia/South America and it'll cost you a fraction of the money you'd spend in NZ/Oz. Its just like home, except sunnier. NZ is stunning though, but 1 month should be enough to cover the main attractions. 7 grand would cover you for nearly a year in Asia (and comfortably!)

€1000 for a month in the likes of the USA? I would have thought that would be cutting it a bit thin no?

Breaking even? Surely it'd be ok to do 6 months in oz if you're breaking even cause you won't be touching the budget so much??

Sure breaking even is perfect if you already have the funds to continue your travel afterwards. But if you're planning to work to save and therefore extend your trip, then be prepared for some long hours.

Edit: Obviously this doesn't count if you're an experienced IT contractor or something, but for regular 'traveller friendly' casual work, the wages are low.

Realistically, travelling for a year you really need to have at least 10k in your bank account, sorry to be so blunt!

i know ppl who spent 4K in 2 months in Oz.... how well do u like drink and eating out? cos thats all ya do in Oz. And the wages are not so good for casual work and if you planned it right you can see most of Oz in about 2 months of 'hard' travelling.
Glowing is right "If you want my opinion, I'd cut out half of the time in Oz & NZ" and spend it in SE Asia and S America
The Euro is really strong there(SE Asia) and every thing is so cheap. put it this way, the money you spend in 2 days in Oz would last about 1 weeks in SE Asia (and thats spending it on the same items, eg food, acc, drink, etc.....) + i think Oz is over rated.....

Ive heard a few people say Aus is over rated, still want to go though

I'm going away for a year next june. America for 7 weeks, 3 weeks mexico, a month in cuba, 3 months or so in south america, 4 months between new zealand and australia, and 2 months in south east asia.

I have everything worked out at a little less than 15 grand. Thats including buying a backpack, travel insurance, vaccinations, all flights, i have some extra other than the RTW package such as getting to and from cuba. I worked out what i think i'll spend in all countries for food and accommodation, internal travel and scooping. I'm sure it can be done for cheaper than i estimated. I over budgeted on things a little so i have my ass covered if i need extra funds along the way.

Just do a search in google for the average price of accommodation and daily cost of living in each country you'll go to and you'll figure out how much you'll get by on. also try factor in optional trips or whatever cause no point in missing out on things because you wanted to save a few quid. Such as going out of the way to see the grand canyon, iguazu falls, inca trail, etc.
