Can it be dangerous to eat too much garlic?

I love my garlic and add it to ratatouille, spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, stews, soups and various other dishes. I know a clove a day is good for one's health (prevents arteries from clogging up, an excellent antioxidant, prevention against colds) but I was wondering if too much could be bad for you. (no jokes about vampires, please ;) )

When people start avoiding you and holding their nose in your presence....then you might be overdoing the garlic:D
