    Hi there

I'm having a bit of a problem with a 2000 Golf. The Lights won't turn off when the doors are shut whereas before they would go off after 20 seconds or something. The light switch seems to be in the right place (fully to the right) but the lights just stay on all the live long day. I've had a look in the door to see if I can see the sensor for telling the car the door is closed but I can't find it, is it in the lock mechanism perhaps? I've had the car for years with no problems and this just started yesterday.

Any ideas how I can fix it? Its not major, just annoying!

On (most cars) they have a sensor on the inside of the pillar where the door meets the pillar when you open the door the sensor will move as the door is not keeping it depressed, in VAG cars they are all in the door locking mechanisim, could be a number of things but most likely its the mech, two options

    1, off to a garage

2, just swich it off and use it when ya need to.

    hope this helps.

there have been known to be problems with the ECU in VWs of that age where electronic stuff would start playing up, it could be that, if so you would have to go to the VW dealer and the ECU will be flashed, not sure if they charge for this as i think it was part of a recall.
most common symtom was the passenger door keyhole, if you put something in it and fiddle around it made the windows go down.,

That would be quite a trick, I have windy windows! ;)

I'll look into an ECU flashing as well thanks!
