People tend to find it very difficult to answer questions that don't have some sort of contextual background. Well, at least I do anyway.

If you could explain in something more akin to full sentences, and maybe even just a fleeting reference to what sort of training contract you're talking about, some people might be more inclined to help out. :)

Sorry a solicitor traineeship - for any sort of firm - from small town to large commercial. I keep hearing thats its getting harder and harder and market will be saturated with graduates looking to go down solicitor route leading to a situation where law firms are pretty much goin to 'shut up shop' in order to stop qualifiing people who will eventually be competing with them.

I mean there was at least 1200-1300 people sitting the FE-1s in april- surely there are not this amount of traineeships available.

Go for a summer internship in as many firms as possible, and try to impress enough to get a job-offer off the back of it.

It's practically impossible to convince a firm (big or small) to give you a traineeship unless they have experience with you and know you're worth the cost to them.

Other than that, get so qualified that they'd be insane not to take you on. Or practice in another country.

The conspiracy theory element to your post is utter nonsense. The truth is there are far too many people chasing too few jobs and thats it.
