Anyone know what the deal is with this stuff? Who drinks it? A lot of pubs around dublin stock it, I know it's a pear cider, but what makes it different?

It used to be 7% and kinda cheap, tastes like Ribena. They changed it around it's now somewhere around 4% and tastes different.

Who drinks it? Erm.. people who like it.

I go with Rekorderlig now though, just like Kopparberg once was!

Have they changed it to be actually cider? When it first came out it was pretty much an alcopop and just claimed to be cider.

I cant even drink a bottle of the stuff before it becomes too sweet. Although the first few mins do taste very nice.

It was always a cider, more of a sweet cider.

Comes in apple mixed berry and pear.

Mixed berry used to be rocket fuel but you an feel it eroding your teeth as you drink it..so sweet.

The mixed berry tasted like cough syrup to me :D

Anyway i remember a discussion last year on boards about it. Turns out officially its classified as an alcopop and not a cider. So its more expensive due to higher duty etc. Not just here either, also where its made in Sweden.

I cant obviously say with certainty as im just remembering a post from last year which may not even have been true :D

Ah here, this has been talked to death. Do a search, you'll find all you need.

Available : Most pubs and all good off-licenses

Who Drinks it: Anyone with a sweet tooth

Used to come in a mixed berry 7% but then they changed the duty classification (or something along those lines) so a bottle would now cost crazy money, so it switched to a 5.3%. The bottles are the same other then the labelling.
There's also a pear and an apple flavour around the 4.2 or 4.5 mark (can't remember which) and they're also available in cans (as is the mixed berry though it's harder to find)
I'm not too sure about other flavours, but you can definitly get a non-alcoholic version over in Sweden and yes, yes, it's just like a sweet fruit juice.

Interesting substitute is Rekorderlig which comes in a range of interesting flavours and I personally find has a more mellow flavour.

Where can I get this Rekorderlig stuff? Found Kopparberg way too sweet in the past to be honest, would love to try something less sickly.

I was in Sweden in May, and there are some wonderful Kopparberg flavours that don't make it over here, like blackberry, watermelon, and I don't know what a cloudberry is, but it's damn tasty.

Ever tried it(pear and apple) out of the can?

Tastes nice but too damn gassy, which is a pity!

It's in most good off-licenses. I'd say you can get it in Molloys, McHughs, Redmonds etc.
Loads of flavours but I mostly see pear and then the strawberry and lime flavour stocked

It is really popular in the North most pubs stock it even the small hick bars are catching on to it. I couldnt drink a big carry out of it. Its tastey in small amounts. But as the others say very sweet and can get sickening. I'll stick to the Beer thanks

The people who drink it are those who wouldnt normally drink beer (lagers). I personally like it but it can be a bit much if you drink it too often, you start to crave something a bit sourer.

Neither Kopparberg nor (afaik) Rekordlig are actual ciders/perrys. If you read the ingredients they list things like fizzy water, sugar, flavourings etc etc. Alcopops pure and simple :)

Good in small doses. I'd rather stick to other ciders like Magners/Bulmers or Strongbow I think.
It can be quite expensive aswell compared to other ciders which is annoying as its a genuinely nice drink.

To me mixed fruit kopparberg is pwned by a nice and classy snakebite, It's overrated. Where as apple kopparberg fresh from the freezer is a drink fit for the gods.

was in Captain America's a while ago with a m8, a place ive only been in a few times and saw they had Kopparberg sowe asked for the mixed berry and it was fekin 7 Euro for the bottle! 14 Euro for a 2 pints was a bit much! We drank it slowly over our meal then left for another pub were we got it for 5.80 a bottle i think.
