Have you found any security programmes (AV, Anti-spyware/adware/malware) that were incompatible with Vista? When moving from XP-2 to Vista Ultimate I found one:

    Spyware Blaster

Vista has spyware protection built in with the new Windows Defender. It's free, built into the OS, and works great. Installing secondary spyware protection is redundant and only serves to slow down your box.

This has not been what I have been reading in PC World, PC Mag, and Wired over the past few months. They have continuously observed that no one security programme catches them all, and have recommended a bundle of compatible Anti-spyware, adware, malware programmes (and free ones also mentioned to avoid advertiser bias). Yes, there are some that may slow you down on load, but then again, there are combinations I've found that do not. In addition to one AV programme suite, I am running Defender (cause it came with Vista), Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy (without tea timer), and I did not notice any difference before and after adding these programmes in bootup or operating time.

But I have noticed that Ad-Aware SE identifies, quarantines, and deletes more tracking cookies, footprints, and junk than all the others combined. I would suspect that this junk can slow your rig down over time if allowed to accumulate.

You wouldn't expect to either. Running more than one AV is looking for trouble. Having a few anti-spyware programs is a good idea as long as they aren't are running actively in the background trying to catch the nasties. I also run Teatimer. Very little impact on system performace.
