Unlike Ireland, Israel has its own Digital Satellite service, in fact with extra capacity they sell space on their 3 satellites to others. They don't really need DTT. Also with all those apartment blocks and big solar water panels they don't notice extra dishes I would think.

Are you suggesting Ireland should follow suit and have TWO dishes on every house ?

Unless maybe 22.2 East is free so that people could use monoblocks

No... But I'm pointing we are in this situation due to lack of vision and ineptitude in UK and Ireland. No-one in UK or Ireland should have been using 19E, nor later 28.2 for default local services

In both cases this was Sky/Murdoch ignoring international agreements and allocations.

In the 28.2E case Astra had to pay compensation to Eutelsat and Central Europe is deprived of a large chunk of 28.2 bandwidth.

Unfortunately we are now stuck with the less suitable 28.2 instead of higher elevation atlantic slot, the best than can be done is to rent transponder from Astra instead of Sky having it.

There should be unified approach to TV & Radio planning considering providers, exploitive US & Sports rights holders, UK TV, Cable, MMDS, Satellite, Fibre, Handset DVH-h, IPTV streaming services, text interactive & EPG and Terrestiral just part of the picture.

But our government(s) since 1922 has never shown proactive visionary leadership about anything bar maybe the Shannon Scheme for Electric.

I always thought it daft that most Central/East European countries are on 13 East and UK/Ireland used 28 East. Other way around would have made more sense but were stuck with it now.

Ummm Ireland had electricity well before 1992 :D

Yes, Ulsterman, the planners gave us and UK more sensible Western slots and 28 is for Central Europe. It shows what can happen when regulation is weak or non-existent.

Thanks for pointing out my typo.
