Anyone care to share their first impressions of the new look iMac?

Personally I approve, but I still think that nothing has has as much charisma as the G4 iMac.

Finally got a proper go... looks a lot better than I expected. I dont hate the screen as much as I thought. It's very sleek and tidy. Overall I like it. The black Apple logo is in keeping with the forth coming Leopard look and feel.

Operationally, not much to talk about there really, no change! One thing that does bug me is the mini-DVI output! Apple keep changing their connections, forcing people to go out and buy MORE adapters! But I wont get too upset over that I'm sure ;) Especially as the new design leaves alot more desk space for a second monitor now anyway! hehe

Mine is in the TNT depot in Dublin since last night having come all the way from Shanghai. Once I get it (tomorrow hopefully), I'll let you know. I played with one when I was in the US last week - as 440Hz said, it's pretty. One stand out thing for me at least was the keyboard. I've only got an old powerbook, so hadnt ever used this new key format. I think it's great. I think the screen is great too.

I agree with a5y though -- the G4 iMac was the pinnacle of 'cool' design.
I suppose - if I'm throwing buzzwords around - that it was both modern minimalist & retro cool, in a way that no other computer before or after it has ever dared to be.
    Organic, even.

Man what I would give to have a C2D-equipped G4...

Yeah its not the BEST Apple design, but its in keeping with the direction they are currently going.

    That is true.

But i must say that from the pictures of macs over the years the design gets better looking each time.
I am the sort of person that never really likes old stuff, i always reckon new stuff looks better in design, no matter what it is.
Oh, i told a little lie, i reckon the F1 mclaren from 1998 was the best looking F1 car ever. that's the only relic ( in life ) i like.

But in general computers are getting better looking and will always be that way, i reckon.

I must say, I'm out of the gang with this one, I really disliked the G4 iMac design, that big round salad bowl of a base really put me off! In fact, I know some people who sent theirs back because they thought they were so ugly ;)

    Your opinion is safe.

Partially because you didn't say that you sent your iMac G4 back.

Partially because you're the mod :p

And partially because I can respect people's opinions.

Even if they're dead wrong ;)

And especially if they're not :D I'm with you 440Hz, those G4 things were horrible! Haven't seen the new one except in pictures but I don't think I like it as much as the G5/Original Intel model - now that was a beautiful machine. They better not uglify the Macbook any time soon! Perfect the way it is :D

    annoys me coz I don't have one;

I have glossy on the macbook and it's fine.

I just got one on Friday, and the glossy screen is better for viewing in the dark or with the blind on the window behind me closed, but with the blind open, there is a nasty reflection. I'd say that overall it's better (especially for viewing photos, which is what I do mostly), but you may need to re-consider how you position it in relation to your window.

As a machine, it is not very different from my previous one (Intel Duo Core iMac), although the keyboard is a lot nicer (bummer that the wireless one is missing the keypad - I was forced to order a wired one as I need it a fair bit).
