    Hi,

The company I work for (go2web) are looking for a linux-y person,
job spec below. It's not a standard sysadmin job, there'll be a bit of
research into building a fault tolerant storage system (for internal use)
using open source software, which should be fun :)

    Nick

    Job Description

go2web is one of Ireland's leading Internet marketing, website design
and hosting companies. It has offices in Howth, Co Dublin and utilises a
co-location facility in Ballycoolin (near Blanchardstown).

The company is developing its high availability server network through
    expanded fault tolerant hardware installation.

A position is available for a system administrator with at least two
years experience to manage the company's network of Linux servers and
Linux / Windows desktop machines and develop the next phase of redundant
hardware architecture. The successful candidate will handle system
administration of all machines both in the co-located rack and in the
company's premises in Howth, Co. Dublin. The job will entail both
maintenance of existing machines / services and development of improved
systems at both facilities. Support of users both within the company
(for all services) and clients of the company (for email and web-hosting
    services) will also be required.

    Required Skills / Experience

    - Linux system setup and administration
    - Network administration and security
    - Email system administration (ideally Exim)
    - Web-server administration (Apache)
    - Database administration (ideally PostgreSQL)
    - Bash Scripting
    - SQL
    - PC Hardware (build / upgrade / configure)

    Desirable

    - Debian / Ubuntu
    - C / C++
    - Python
    - HTML / CSS / Javascript
    - High Availability / Redundant systems
    - Network storage systems (SANs, iSCSI)

To apply please email jobs@go2.ie including up-to-date CV.

Do you have a rough salary guide?

Yeah I knew I should have put that in :)

    €30,000 - €45,000 depending on experience etc

Salary between €30,000 & €45,000, bit of a gap there!!!

Also (before this gets locked) I have noticed the trend in 'jack of trades' type roles in IT lately. Its as if companies want to hire the least amount of IT people as possible.

That's not an unusual salary rage, it's obviously dependent on experience.

Go2Web is quite a small company, so I doubt they're doing a 'jack of all trades role to save money'.

I'm not locking this thread because its been posted by the employer and he's given all the relevent details..

Sure, but it's really a matter for negotiation rather than a set in stone thing. Take a look at monster.ie and see how many companies won't give any indication at all (eg google).

Yeah we're a small company so the technical staff have to cover a variety of roles. That's actually a good thing in that you get experience in lots of different areas.

I concur. I don't see why we'd want to lock/delete this thread. If a user is obviously an agency because that particular IP is constantly offering jobs sure, but otherwise they should be given the benefit of the doubt so long as they give all the needed details and won't just "reply by PM".

I rarely, if ever apply for a job when the salary range is such a wide gap, or if it is "negotiable". If company cannot commit to a decent salary or salary range, obviously they are trying to scimp. I know many others with the same philosophy. just a note to recruiters.

Keep discussions related to the actual job spec. This is not the thread for general discussion on the do's and don'ts.
