How long does it take to receive Sky Viewing Card??

    I'm in a bit of a pickle...

I ordered Sky+ last Friday. During the week (Wednesday) i received 2 letters from Sky, one welcoming me to Sky etc, the other giving me my account number and job reference number for fitting.

My installation is due for Monday next, and no viewing card has arrived. Sky say it should arrive in Monday's post as it was posted on 10th from Scotland. However, what if the fitter arrives before 12.30pm on MOnday? My post only arrives at that time.

Anyone able to tell me how long their cards took to arrive?
Sky tell me that apparantly they can talk me through making the thing live even if the card hasn't arrived on Monday. I'm a bit wary of that though.
However - the next available date for installation is August 30th which doesn't suit me as i have work commitments for that date....

It's not difficult at all. You'd be well able for it as long as you have some spare time. The hardest part is putting up with being on hold.

My viewing card hadn't arrived when I had Sky installed a few years back. Bloke just did the install as normal and gave me the number to call when the viewing card would arrive in the post - which it did two days later.

You'll be able to view all the free-to-air channels without the viewing card, so you'll know that the system's been installed correctly.

Then just phone Sky & tell them the number on the back of the viewing card once it arrives.

    Thanks guys.

I actually phone the Post Office this morning and have it sorted that i can call them at 9am on Monday - if the viewing card is there i'll go and pick it up before postman takes it off with him.

If not - i'll just take your advice - have it installed and put up with being on hold later in the week ;)

Well, install took place today at 9am - how and ever, no viewing card in the PO for me unfortunately.

The engineer left me an instruction sheet for registering the Viewing Card when it arrives. Just wondering if any of you guys have already had to do this - is it easy (problem free)???

I should have the card in the next day or two - can't wait... it's bugging me not being able to view the channels - ntl box still live for now....

Its easy to activate your card so long as the phoneline is connected to the box, however on occasions it may take one or two attempts.

    1.Press services
    2.press 4
    3.press 0,1 select
Highlight new installation and press select...just press select a few times, when channel complete comes up press select again and it will attempt a callback.

If it suceeds ur done, however if the callback fails hit select and try again if it fails again u may need to enter 142 if ur number is ex directory do this by

    press services
    press 4
    press 0,1 select
highlight telephone settings and press select
in dialing prefix enter 142 on keypad
save new settings and it will attempt callback again

    Best of luck

One further question actually - at the moment, my channel 101 is BBC One London. I was under the impression that it would be RTE1 (ROI EPG)?

Could it be that when my card is activated etc... that the EPG will be set up correctly?

Yes paddy the epg will change when you activate your card, you will however loose channels such as BBC3 AND 4 and ITV 2 3 and 4 on the Irish epg but you can enter their freq and watch them through the other channel section

    Excellent - thanks a million.
I already tuned in UTV to my "other channels" thanks to the Sticky on these boards - so at least i'll know how to do it when it comes to it.

I'm just so damn pi**ed off - viewing card still hasn't arrived as of today - so i phoned them up to see what the story was.

They claim that they didn't have my full address, even though I already received 2 letters from Sky with my correct address.

The lady amended my address and called it back to me, and now claims i'll have my card by Monday or at least Tuesday.

    Just so disappointed!! :(
