Anyone here use CentOs as a day to day operating system?

What do you think of it? How would you compare it to (say) ubuntu, or similar distribution with a delicious package manager? I know CentOs has yum but I'm not hugely familiar with it. xfce + CentOs possible / horribly difficult?

I need to shift to a 64bit dev environment on Monday and we'll be deploying on RHEL, so I was considering installing CentOs on my box.

    Ramble away.....

From what I've read, it seems like a solid distro for servers. Uses Red Hat's packages for RHEL and removes all references to Red Hat. All the stability and none of the support costs!

Ubuntu also aims at the server market and offers commercial support. The fact the some of the Ubuntu-based servers were hacked recently doesn't do much in promoting it.

I'm sure you could add xfce packages.

You might have a busy weekend shifting to 64-bit :D.

At work, found that a handful of binary drivers, programs and iffy configuration files whined a bit because it didn't have a uname stating to be RHEL.

XFCE packages are available as part of the official "extras" repository and mirrors.
    eg ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/centos/5/extras/x86_64/RPMS
