Audi A4 diesel MPG

I have an 04 Audi A4 diesel 130bhp 6speed manual, according to both Parkers car guide and Whatcar, I should average at least 48 mpg. But my average is 43 mpg. I previously had a 96 A4 diesel 110bhp and it easily averaged 50 mpg.
So I was wondering has anyone else got any figures for this model and any suggestions as to why the mpg is low.
By the way, most of the miles are motorway miles, Louth to Dublin commute, and the car isn't being driven to excess.

    Sounds about right ..

    TDI gets around 40 - 45MPG.
    TDI gets around 50 - 55.

Having that bigger turbo is drinking up a little extra juice :)

    LW,
    I have the same car(2001)
My average over the last 50 hrs driving is about 46.7 - Country roads and around town.
On motorways my average would be around 44/45-that would be 125+kph driving.
Best figures I can get are driving around 80kph then I can top 52+mpg easily.
Have to say that I'm happy with the mpg from such a great car...non-biased opinion ofc.

2004 A4 is bigger and heavier than a 1996 A4 so not really fair to compare both.

Also take into account that 2004 A4 has climate controlled air conditioning so if your constantly using that it will impact mpg a little.

Was the fuel economy always the same or has it only happened recently? When was the last time the car was serviced? Maybe things like the oil filter are due a change?

Thanks for the replies, maybe I was spoiled with the '96 A4, cause I could drive motorway, urban, backroads and still average 50 mpg, driving fast or slow didn't seem to have a great bearing on the mpg.
Glad I kept now!!! 04 A4 for sale LOL
