Hi guys, i am again looking to pick your brains, i am a sky digital customer and after my 32 inch crt tv is no more (unfixable), i am thinking of investing in a Samsung 32 inch LCD tv, will the reception be equal to CRT tv or better than it, any advice much appreciated.

I agree with the view that CRT picture is much better than that of LCD. I bought an LCD T.V. about 6 months ago and i'm not all that impressed with the picture quality while watching sky Digital but the picture quality is absolutly incredible when watching DVD's, far better than CRT imo.

are we talking inferior as in unwatchable or just inferior in regards to a true representation of what's being broadcast?

I currently have an LCD....The quality is brilliant watching DVD's and playing the Xbox on but Sky is definitely not as good as a CRT screen.

I think what you've said is the answer. The LCD screens just give us a true representation of the quality of TV we are receiving which is not great......IUts still more than watchable mind you. :)

    good to know.

i'm in the market for a new flatscreen PC monitor so I thought I might go the LCD-TV route, while I'm at it.

be mainly used as a monitor so I'm not all that bothered if the tv quality is a tad lacking, having the facility would still be groovy.

Sorry for the late reply.I just think that with lcds being brighter, having higher resolution etc they tend to magnify the nastyness in the broadcast which a crt masks. having said that high bitrate channels such as rte bbc etc on sky look quite decent where as hd looks excellent.if your only going to watch sky sd with no intentions of getting hd for a few years and dont care about the size then i would get a cheap crt television i know you can pick up some second hand quality crts on ebay at good prices.

There's also the problem with SD Sky (or cable or anything else not HD) in that the only available outputs from the box are analogue, so with LCD and plasma TVs there's always going to be the added quality loss from the digital->analogue->digital conversion.
