Dropped laptop..

Disaster struck today and I dropped my laptop. It got a pretty hard bang but everything seems to be working ok so far except for the Dvd disk drive. It opened up on falling and would not shut afterwards. No physical damage seemed to be caused to it as in nothing was visibly broken outside. I forced it closed but since then it's refusing to open.Pressing the eject button causes the little light on the drive to flash but it won't budge. I was wondering if this is likely to be expensive or difficult to repair or would buying an external disk drive be the wiser option?
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to give me their opinion.

What make of laptop is it? Is it a removeable dvd drive?

It's a Medion laptop. Its 6 years old now. I don't honestly know if its a removable drive. Is there anyway to tell ?From looking at it doubt that it is removable.

I had this happen on my PC, its just lost its position on the cog that moves to open the drive!! Best option is to gently pry it open as you press the button and see if it catches!!

Thanks for the replies. Thank you particularly Johnie24ie. I did as you said and after much gentle and then some not so gentle coaxing the door did open and the drive is still reading and functioning.I'm happy :)
