    Hi all,

I got a new external drive today to store all my music, pictures and the likes, as i want to be able to use it with all the computers in the house.

I am just wondering how I would go about moving these files to the new drive. I can move the pictures and the likes, but is it possible to move whole programs, such as Itunes or games along with all the files, music in Itunes case, that go with it?

    THanks
    Bnev

Don't think so but I could be wrong, they have registry entries and such which would be all mixed up if you tried to move them over so you may have to reinstall.

So ill have to move the music over first and then re-install Itunes onto the external drive? Will this effect the music files?

External drives are for backing up or storing data only , installing programs to these is out of the question , even if you do manage to do it the performance will be terrible.

You can move the music over to the external drive but leave iTunes on the internal

It is usually possible to store and run a program on an external drive, but unless there's a specific reason why you can't/won't install it on the other machines, then it's more hassle than it's worth.

Stick Itunes on each machine, and point their music directories at the external drive.

    Hi there,

The answer to your question is Yes you can!!!!
Its not really the best way of doing it but yes it can be done with a new portable way of application packaging.

Portable winamp or Itunes can be done but is involved!!

lots of more reliable portable apps here too http://portableapps.com/

    Wot he said

This the best action to take, just stick the tunes on the external HD ad leave iTunes on the PC.
