would like to get out a bit more often and tackle some of the hills/mountains surrounding dublin. are there any published books / booklets / magazines / map series that have been published showing 'rides' or 'routes' that one might follow when venturing out and about?

No books specific to Wicklow mountain rides afaik. I've got one that covers Dublin & Wicklow but I wouldn't recommend it. There are probably cycle rides mapped out on various websites. I'd recommend getting the Ordnance Survey Discovery maps #50 & #56 and discover the roads and paths yourself, more fun IMO.

It is truly brilliant, and I bow to the man who entered all the routes.
Don't miss the nifty elevation map below the main map.

Nice one. I've been using http://www.gmap-pedometer.com to do the same thing but RouteSlip looks slightly better organized. That's a good find.
