Anyone got any idea how long it usually takes for a Log-Book to come back, it was sent off on the 28th of July and it still hasn't come back (ie. this monday coming it'll be 3 weeks). Is this normal ? And if so, how much longer could it possibly take ?

Give it a few more weeks. I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. 2 months is not is not unheard of.

Is there any way of contacting or finding out (have his name but not his address) of a previous owner of a car to get the necessary manuals/log book/service history?

If you bought the car through a dealer/trader then you should go back there and aske them to contact the previous owner. If you bought it privately and have lost the contact details then you could possibly contact the VRO in Shannon and explain your predicament.

The VLC (log book) should be posted by the seller or selling dealer.

It was purchased from Merlin Motor Auctions at the back of Ashbourne, I was given the name from the leasing firm (GE capital/woodchester) who'd repo'd it but no address, it's moreso the service history (the car was looked after) that I'm after I'm currently writing everything I do in the back of the manual.

So I take that by 'log book' you mean service book rather than the registration documents?

There's a good chance that if it was a repo then the previous owner may have binned what you are looking for. Can GE tell you who the supplying dealer was? With a bit of luck the car was serviced there.

It was sold through Des Cullen whom I've spoken to, unfortunately it wasn't serviced there, there is a sticker on the inside door frame but it's faded so can't read the dealer name from it.

The pervious owner ran a company called Jonathan Group (think they were civil engineers) but getting a contact number or address has proved impossible.

If you buy at an auction you generally get whats in the car and nothing else, should always check if theres service history/manuals in the glove compartment otherwise they wont have them. Only thing they generally take out are stereo faces etc.
Also companies often keep all vechicle documents in an office rather than the individual cars and if the car was reposssed good chance company aint no more either!
How many miles on the car? You might be as well getting new set of manuals/service history and getting them stamped from now on, part service history is better than none!

78k when purchased, 91k on it now and as said written everything down that I've had done to it, tbh at this stage I'd go no where near a stealership to get a stamp. It's just things like if the timing chain was done (not sure what the maintenance period on it is) it's been through an A and B service and B service due again in around 6k. I have 2 phone numbers scoured from the directory around the area that the car was due in for an NCT with the same name as I was given I should really give em a call.
