    Hi folks,prior to the official launch of the An Taobh Tuathail compilation in Roisin Dubh,Galway, Chequerboard will be playing live instore at HMV Eyre Square at 6pm.

    Copies of the compilation will be on sale instore at HMV plus they will be available to buy at the gigs in Roisin Dubh & The Sugar club.

    CANE 141

    Galway-based Cane 141 has probably been the most played Irish act on An Taobh Tuathail since the show commenced. We're long-time fans of their beautifully crafted melancholic pop, ever since they released their first LP Scene From 6AM ten summers ago. Their following LP, Garden Tiger Moth from 2001, is up there on our all-time favourites list and we feel that it is a travesty that their most recent LP, Moon Pool, didn't win the Choice Music Award. Cane frontman Michael Smalle has been busy of late rehearsing with his band for these live shows and we are absolutely over the moon to have them headlining our launch nights this August.

    CHEQUERBOARD

    Chequerboard is guitarist and producer John Lambert from Dublin. In the past he has played with The Books, Fennesz, Mike Patton, Susumu Yokota, Murcof and Jimi Tenor. Chequerboard has also performed at the Electric Picnic a number of times and at the Mór festival as well. As the 2007 Model Music Fellow, John has been living and working from the Model in Sligo for the past few months. As part of his fellowship he was asked to curate a concert with an international musician that he would most like to perform with. He chose Mexican musician Fernando Corona who, as Murcof, sets about experimenting with electronic and classical music in their more minimalist expressions (check out his amazing work on the Leaf Label). They performed together in Sligo very recently. We're very much looking forward to hearing John's glorious guitar soundscapes at the launch shows.

    AN TAOBH TUATHAIL

    An Taobh Tuathail has been broadcasting the cream of underground music from around the globe on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta/ANOCHT FM since May 1999. West Kerry native Cian Ó Cíobháin, who has been at the helm since its very first broadcast, presents the show Mondays to Fridays, 11pm-1am. An Taobh Tuathail Vol 1 will be released on Psychonavigation Records at the end of August and features twelve beautiful tunes, including the music of Cane 141, Chequerboard, Phelan Sheppard, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Felix Laband & more.
