I was on Kos in 2003 for a week. Thought it was very quiet, peaceful, friendly place. There is a fairly lively area in the main town that has nightclubs but it would pale in comparison to places like Ibiza, Ayia Napa, etc. If you want sun and sea, it's great but there's little to do otherwise. Lovely food though.

Never been to Kos but was in Ayia Napa two years ago with my girlfriend in late September.
It was magic, lots of cool places to visit during the day, especially if you rent some transport, and nice restaurants and bars without being too mental or full of teeny boppers (prob had a lot to do with time of year we went).
I would defo recommend it, as if you want to go mental a few nights you still can but there are plenty of "more relaxed" options.
PS I was 26 and my GF was 23 when we went, just for perspective.

    Enjoy your holiday;)

Its an absolute kip. We were there 2002, 3 of us. We got hopped on the first night, by an English auld lad, who started throwing pint glasses at us. He was thrown out, and then they let him back in 30mins later, and he started throwing chairs at us. bouncers threw him out.

We thought it might just be an isolated incident, next night, the local cops thought we had held up an off licence and pulled a gun on us, that was fun, good thing we kept the receipt otherwise, it could have been nasty.

The third night, we decided to stay in, and were having a few drinks on our balcony, when we seen two English girls getting hopped on by two Albanian's who robbed their phones, and threw glass botttles on them.

Now we were there another 9 nights, and we saw other mad stuff, but they were the highlights. I know other people who have been and they had the time of their lives, so just depends. One tip stay away from the albanians if you are going - absolute scumbags.

We're going to Kos town which is the main town of the island so hoping for a nice place with good food, cheap drink and maybe a nightclub or two...Hopefully we won't get any bottles thrown at us!

I went there with 2 friends in 2003. Had a great time. A week is long enough though. We were staying in Kos town but we rented a car to go to the other end of the island, did loads of watersports, rented bikes, rented mopeds, climbed the mountain, swam etc....You can also go on a day trip to Turkey though we didn't.Night life was grand too.

I've been to Kos many times, I live here in Ireland but I have lots of family who live there. The nightlife in Kos town is good. Lots of bars near each other. Some nice places for crepes, etc. Lovely parts in the 'old part' of town. If you choose a nice place to stay then it's ok. Do drive up to Kefalos to explore one day, all along there are lovely beaches for watersports. Try sunny beach, quieter and deeper waters suitable for watersports.
Warm shallow beaches are in tigaki and marmari.

Go easy on the drinking, bars tend to be very generous when pouring coctails!

In terms of accomodation, it's like any other place. You can avoid ruffians and lagerlouts by staying in A-class aparments or a nice hotel.

    Enjoy!

Just back from kos yesterday, was impressed with it, lots of places you can go for a relaxing pint, then there's the area which is a bit nuts bar street, all good, couldn't count the amount of restaurants there too, mainly dutch holiday goers, a few scadinavian, not too many brits, and less irish, one flight a week there from ireland.
We stayed in aspa apts about 500mtr from the main area, about 200mtr from the beach also.. wide range of ages from about 18yrs up, plenty to do for a week there, for 2 weeks maybe not, just don't go on any excursions from budget reps, we saved 85 euro between 2 of us for 3 excursions by just booking the same trips with travel agents around the town!
