Canon cashback bulls***

I've just got a letter back from Canon saying the €30 cashback I'm due on a lens I bought in June has been declined as the receipt was dated after the qualifying period for the promotion. This is utter BS, the promotion ended on June 30th, the receipt I submitted is very clearly dated June 21st. It was mid July before I got around to submitting the claim, but according to their website, claims can be submitted up until October, so long as the receipt is dated within the promotion period.

Of course there's no contact info on the letter, and somebody mumbling that they "Can't answer the phone now" when you call the number on the website.

Has anybody else been fobbed off like this, and if so had any joy banging heads together? Of course they didn't send back the barcodes, so that's probably going to be a sticking point if I ever do manage to speak to something human at Canon. Tossers.

compose a strongly worded letter? I take it you don't have a copy of the receipt and the application you made anymore?

I had (or rather my wife) had no problem with our €80 cashback and she sent it all back in July. Camera was bought beginning of June afaik. Sorry to hear your having problems though.

I have the receipt - I sent them a copy, and I'm pretty sure I printed off a spare copy of the application (somewhere in the large stack that passes for "filed" on my desk). Unfortunately I don't think I took a copy of the barcodes :(

Any idea where the best place to send a strongly worded letter would be? I'm guessing not that PO box in Tipp, and customer service addresses are at best well buried on the Canon Ireland website. If anybody has the email address of somebody high up in the food chain, could they please PM me. I've found from experience that strongly worded letters/emails directed at somebody that doesn't like to be bothered cause things to happen a bit quicker, and with less overall stress to me, than going through helldesk grunts.

I would say that Simon's your man there. He would know a fair few Canon contacts at this stage.

That's a real pain John. A friend got over €300 back recently even though he bought everything from Germany. In the US there have been very serious allegations against the company running the rebates. The same problems doesn't seem to be an issue here. I'd say Canon Ireland would be approchable enough. Simon ( Leinsterman) has the contact names I think.

Do you know if you're eligible for the cashback offer if you bought your stuff on pixmania.ie?

I'd imagine you are. If my mate got his after buying from Germany, France should be the same. It's in the EU so I'd imagine the "single market" rules apply.

This sounds like it could be a simple clerical error - I would imagine they have form letters ready for promotions where people applying use incorrect receipts or receipts out of the valid date range.

If your receipt is clearly dated and within the date range for a qualifying product and you applied within the stated timeframe I am pretty sure they would be happy to give you the money you are entitled to. If I were you I would re-apply and also it might not hurt to email their Customer Relations dept too - possibly give them a link to this forum thread as a way of highlighting the negative publicity they are open to as a result of the messup.
