    there will be a new firmware update, and added to the xmb network tab there'll be a thing to install home (a-la installing folding@home) which will then link itself to your PSN ID etc.

    after that you can just load it up & away you go. it'll be totally free, but there will be small charges on items to buy in the world (high-street clothing stores etc.). basically the core experience will be free for you.

    it's due out before the end of november too
