Updating with Memory Stick

Can it be done? I noticed in anotehr post that a USB key wasn't detected and the saem thing has happened to me; I'm still trying for an internet connection, but I'd have liked to update via memory key as a stop gap solution.

Format the stick. Then put a new folder named PS3 onto the stick. In that folder create another new folder called UPDATE and put the update file in there. Your PS3 should pick it up now.
