NCT Emissions Failure

    Hi All,

I just had my 99 Seat Ibiza in for its NCT and it failed on emissions.
It had a full service before the NCT but my mechanic doesn't have a emissions tester so he did do this bit!
    The results are

    Engine Oil Temp 87C
    Low Idle
    CO 0.10 vol %
    HC 0ppm

    High Idle
    Lambda: 1.020
    CO 0.42 FAIL
    HC 106ppm

I was just wondering do these figures point to anything in particular that could be wrong. I had the CAT replaced 2 years ago with a recon one. Could this be gone again?
I also had a new exhaust fitted about a month ago. Someone suggested that there could be a leak in it??
Also do I need to bring this to a engine tuning specialist to fix or should most large garages be able to fix it? I'm in the Phibsboro area if anyone knows a good one.

    Thanks in advance,
    Cillian

I'm having a similar problem with my 99 Citroen Xsara.

Failed badly on emissions. I took it to the Citroen dealer in town and they said they had to replace the exhaust box before they could do an emmisions test, since it was badly eroded.

After replacing the exhaust box they told me that it could be anything and that I was better of buying a different car since it would cost alot just for them to pin down the problem and that they couldn't guarantee they could fix it.

I've had alot done to the car recently, head gasket, ECU replaced, center exaust replaced, lambda sensor.

Anyway rang up the garage I used when I was up in Swords, who did most of the work on the car, and they said to just bring it in and they would sort it.

I'm a car noob so would also be interested as to others advice.

Mine failed too - and it was much higher than the OP's

Perhaps the oxygen sensor needs replacing?? I brought my car to an independant in Swords, who tried eveything - checked sensor and cleaned out stuff to no avail - its in for a new cat tomorrow morning - €470 - expensive but BMW parts are!! :(

Did you ever get this to pass the NCT?

same problem with my ibiza 99 and it fail NCT due to emission

    Low idle CO 0.58 vol%

    High idle CO 0.66 VOL%

my mechanic suggested me to buy petrol treatment and i baught that from auto parts shop for 10e and mechanic added 80% of that into petrol tank and he was supposed to put remaining 20% one day before the NCT and then that way it shold b pass NCT but unfortunatly the remaining liquid mechanic used for some other car and when i was there one day before NCT to mechanic then mechanic just said it should b ok and no problem car will pass the emission test but it failed.Tomorow i m going to that mechanic again and let c what he gonna do it coz it was his mistake he didn't put the petrol treatment one day before to fuel tank.

    Hi Bulty,

Please don't bump 2-3 year old threads. Please start a new one if you wish to discuss this.

    Thanks,

    Chris
