New mac mini wireless spec

    Hello,

I am interested in buying a new mac mini soon and number of people have commented negatively on mac mini forums about the fact that the new mac mini's (August 2007) still have 802.11g wireless rather than 802.11n. As someone who knows nothing about wireless standards, does this matter? I would be using the mini for all the usual stuff, internet, mail etc etc and maybe opting for a wireless keyboard/mouse.

    thanks

i wouldn't worry about it to be honest....

unless you plan on having centralised network storage, or do video streaming over your network it'd not going to make a huge difference having 802.11n (draft N for that matter). Sure even the old 802.11b still outperforms our DSL connections!!

Now is a good time to buy the MacMini...its just after a fresh hardware update!!

I thought the Mac Mini was being discontinued. Was told by someone in a 3G store that it was also.

It hasn't been yet, infact it was upgraded last week when the new iMacs came out.

It probably will be in the long run but not just yet :)

That's good to know. A Core 2 Duo Mini could convert me yet! :p

Most people with Pre n or n wireless will never see the speed increase from g.

Once it detects another wireless network it falls back to g like speeds.

And on many systems i am told it even gets confused by cordless phones.

802.11/b/g can do this too in fairness so thats nothing new :)
