Just got a text from 50202 (the number info texts from o2 usually come from)

'As a new O2 customer, was your decision to join O2 based on the recommendation of a friend or colleague? Free text your reply Yes or NO to 50202. From O2'.

Now, first of all - I've been with O2 for 6 years.

Secondly - it's sort of a silly question to be asking.

Sounds to me like O2 got a fit of paranoia that all networks seem to get...maybe people think for themselves.

They need reassurance that all this mobile thing "needs a degree in computer science" to quote another network and that it is only through continued sponsorship of sports and opening of endless shops that don't have things in stock today but can get it tomorrow that they can possibly get customers, rather than anything complex like improving service or lowering price.

Text them back that you saw O2 on a football shirt and asked a friend who said that the guy who scored the winning goal in the 1990 inter-country final had opened a small shop. You went in and he got you your phone "within a day or two".

They'll be happy for another six years. That's what they like to hear.

That's a fantastic text message. What did customer care say? :)

There was a mix up with an SMS that went out on Wednesday 15th August at 10am. This SMS is part of an outgoing campaign that is used by our Customer Experience team.
A group of customers that recently were given a swap out handset received the following SMS:
As a new O2 customer, was your decision to join O2 based on the recommendation of a friend or colleague? Free text your reply Yes or NO to 50202. From O2. (3000 customers received this in error)

New customers who have just joined O2 received the following:
We recently swapped your phone when you took it for repair. Did this service exceed your expectations? Free text EXCEED or FAILED to 50202. From O2. (280 customers received this in error)
