    Hi,
I am looking to copy the content of my SKY+ hard drive (recorded movies etc.) onto an external Hard disk drive. Does anyone know if this is possible to do.
Is it possible to burn recorded movies direct to DVDR.
    Thanks

I don't know what file system Sky+ uses but there is a program to allow you to copy the recording on one hard drive to another [usually if upgrading the drive].

Also, the recording are encrypted. So, even by managing to get the recording on an external hard drive, you'd need a valid subscription [i.e. active viewing card] to allow you to watch your own recordings.

You could record directly to DVD+/-R using a DVD recorder. Just connect it by scart and use the copy function on the Sky+.

If you really do want the recording on an external hard disk, you'd need to recode them. This would involve connecting the box to a TV capture card using RF, composite video and stereo audio [the yellow, red and white connectors] or s-video if you digibox outputs it. Then the file captured could be copied to a drive without worry about decrypting it. However, all this conversion comes at the cost of reduced picture quality.

    Thanks
Looks like I will try the DVD record option for the moment, to get rid of some movies and at least to free up some disk space.

Do you have any recommendations for a cheapish good quality recorder that will enable me to play the recorded DVD on different players without problems.

I've no connection with this sale except I have this recorder and do all my back-ups to dvd with it without issue at excellent quality
