I'm sure you'll be able to use the Euro there - I think they've tied their currency to it since their accession to the EU.. Other than that, I'm afraid I haven't a clue..

    In Bulgaria?

What about the travel agencies? JWT on O'Connell St and Thomas Cook have Bureau De Change.

Nope. That'll only happen when they're given the go-ahead to join the euro, which hasn't happened yet.

Anyway, back on topic; I'd just change a small amount of money in the airport when you land, and then shop around for the best exchange rates in town later on. If it's anything like Romania/Hungary/Slovakia etc then there'll be no shortage of exchange counters which will give you a better rate than anywhere in Ireland.

When I was in Bulgaria in 1999, it was illegal to take currency out of the country. If its still the same way today, it would seem unlikely that youd be able to get hold of bulgarian lev before you get there.

You can get all the lev you want before you go. and bring back as much as you like. I got mine 2 yrs ago in BOI and just gave them a few days notice.

There are atm machines over there that give you a very good exchange rate and have a small charge so if all else fails you can get you cash there.

I just pre ordered mine in BOI aswell. They said to come in three days later. ATM's that i have experienced over there only take credit cards not your pass card, which is handier for security anyway.
