I have a webhosting account with Blacknight. To access my back end DirectAdmin Control Panel I go to

mydomain.com:2222 - and login through there.

This works perfectly in work, but for some reason from home it willl not work - I just get a blank screen. Firefox and IE the same.

I tried it on my flatmates laptop in the house and the same thing happens! I contacted Blacknight they said there is nothing on their side to prevent it and to check firewalls etc.

I don't have a firewall, the windows one it turned off. I can't think if anything that would cause this.

We are both connected wirelessly through a linksys WRK54G and on NTL.

Can anyone shed some light on it for me?
    Thanks

They say it's not on their end. Do you have any security setting that restricts restricts remote access to one IP address [yours]?

Not sure but I don't think so... I use Log Me In, don't think that would make a difference...

    How would this be done?

Your router's firewall might be enabled and blocking requests to port 2222.

Thanks IRLrobbins - how can I check this? Where in linksys router settings do you go to check this?
    Thanks

Open your browser, enter ip address of the router (192.1.0.1 for example) then the router password. CLick on the security tab should be an option there to enable and disable firewall. Try with the firewall disabled.

Can't find anything to do with a firewall in the router settngs, I had a good look. What I did was "Restore Factory Settings" to get it back to original, and even upgraded the firmware to latest version, but still no joy...

    Weird.. What now?

I just got the laptop and plugged directly into my NTL router, and it worked. So it must be the Linksys router that is blocking it for some reason.

How can I find out how to enable it again? Strange that I reset the factory settings but still its blocked?

Can't find a user guide online for the WRK54G so can't say.

The WRK54G is just a stripped down version of the WRT54G.

OP: Are you sure you meant the Linksys WRK54G and not the WRT54G???

Deffo WRK54G. Its the one with just one ariel and came with a laptop pcmcia card... But you are right its very similar to the WRT54G

Called Linksys tech support in USA. They don't really have a clue. They got me to forward port 8080 and disable the "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" but it still won't work.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

Try logging in securely through https://yourdomain.com:2222 as most hosting providers also provide a secure connection. So see if that makes a difference.

Also who is your ISP as they might be blocking port 2222 regardless of your router as it may be a port used by filesharing programs or something.

Hmm nope that doesn't work either...

The weird thing is that I'm pretty sure I used to be able to access this site in the past, but for no reason I can think of, no longer works any more. I can't understand that after resetting the factory settings and updating the firmware, it still won't work...

Then id check with your isp do they block port 2222 because its used by a file sharing program. If its not at your end i.e. your pc, router or firewall then its probably the only thing left it could be

But I can access it if I connect directly to my NTL Modem, its only blocked when i go through the Linksys...

Firewall is on by default therefore is enabled in factory settings.

Does your linksys router setup page look something like
    WRK54G3.jpg
(this is an image of the wrk54g interface)

If so the firewall option is in the "security" tab (least it is on my wag54g whose interface looks identical).

I think possibly (in my drunken state) that the OP has a scaled down version of the WRT54G and that the scaled down version doesn't have the security options of the WRT54G (i.e. the firewall and port opening features(

But how come it used to work a few months ago? doesn't make any sense!

I am having the exact same issue. WRT54GL is my router though. I was able to access direct admin at http://www.mydomain.com:2222 for months. Then all of the sudden, nothing. I contacted my ISP (dedicated server with Globalcon) and they were able to access from inside and outside of the firewall. I plugged directly into my router and was good to go. I have no idea what to try. I haven't changed anything on my end. The only thing that I can think of is the latest XP Updates. I went in to the $uninstall dirs and got rid of all the last applied ones though. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Meschu. The really weird thign is that is 'fixed itself' about a month or two ago. No idea why or how, but it started working again. Sorry I can't be of more help

Yeah, it is totally not making sense to me. Today I uninstalled my linksys firmware and put on dd-wrt firmware. Didn't help. I was still able to connect directly via the cable modem. I am at my friends house now and she has a D-Link router. Connected to direct admin fine from here. Very strange indeed.

My IP was added to my directadmin ip_blacklist in: /usr/local/directadmin/data/admin

I removed it, but can't test till tomorrow when I get home. The weird thing is that I should have not been able to access when I plugged in to my modem because I still have the same source address. Hmmmm.. I will post back here when I have a chance to test, but I bet this will fix it.

The default is set to 100 failed logins the IP gets blacklisted. That is also weired because I know I didn't try to login unsuccessfully 100 times in 1 minute. That is odd!
