So I moved into my new house about 6 months ago. The place is pre-wired for both Eircom and NTL. However the best Eircom can offer me for turning on the phone line is "Next Year" sometime, although they happily took the 65euro connection fee anyway!
NTL is a lot more promising tho, they cant offer me any services because Im not on their system yet. But the good news is I'll be on the system "Next Week". Of course this is the same response Ive been getting for the last 6 months. Makes me wonder what sort of calendar they are using in there.
Its a new estate in Finglas where I live and there is apparently(the NTL sales reps tell me) hundreds of calls a week coming into them from people looking for service. And yet they still can get the finger out and add us to the "system".
Its an absolute joke, One of my neighbours who lives literally 20seconds walk from my front door just got connected up with broadband, tv and phone last Friday, however they still cannot service me until I appear on their system "Next Week".
What the hell can be done to actually get somewhere with these people.

Obviously they wont be connecting you. Why don't you seek alternative solutions?

I had digiweb out but they couldnt get a signal. I havent bothered with ICE as Ive read enough about them to stay away. As Eircom wont give me any real date for turning on the phone line I dont any other option for broadband?
Id get Sky no problems but I really want SKY+ and multiroom but again no phone line is the problem there.

The only time I've ever seen anything like this is when a new system has some sort of fault in it. Ntl won't take control of it from the contract builders till its running correctly. It usually doesn’t take that long to sort out.

Re; Eircom -- Ring their press office. tell them the story and then tell them you're going to be ringing the business scetion of the Irish Times and or mags such as ComputerScope or PC Live if they don't sort it out. Tell them you don't want to have to do it but you're at your wits end...

See if that gets a response.

To be honest that sounds as if someone had made a mistake in telling you next year...

Re NTL: Try its PR people (same trick) and tell em the same thing.

let me know how you get on...
