Table has been fairly tight. Villain has shown down two hands. AA against me when I called a flop and turn bet with top pair and we both checked the river and A3d when he checked a flop with a hyper aggressive player, called a small turn bet and won the pot when he rivered his ace.

I haven't been involved much with villain.

    Anyway

    Live 1/1 hand. Pot Limit
    Stacks
    Hero UTG+1: €400+
    Villain MP: €150
    UTG: €40

    Action: Pre Flop:

    UTG Limps
    Hero Limps with A4hearts
    Villain raises 6

    CO calls.
    UTG calls
    Hero Calls

    Pot 26
    Flop: 3h6hQs

    Utg Checks
    Hero Checks
    Villain Bets 25

    Utg Calls
    Hero Raises to 125
Villain thinks for about a minute and pushes all in.

    UTG calls (40euro starting stack)
    Hero calls.

    All comments appreciated

you are semi bluffing with no folding equity. Does this sound like a good idea?

Your flop raise makes no sense. Just call the flop.

Your flop raise makes no sense. Just call the flop.

Ok, I don't think this is that clearcut. I don't see how the raise makes no sense first of all. Do the two small sets not take a similar line? If you were the villain in hand, would you go 'ha, I see a check-raise, obviously he has nothing, I call with AJ'?!

And I do think you have fold equity, obviously not against the shorty but if the preflop raiser folds, you have put in 40 overall into a pot of 111 or so, with huge equity v the shortstack. That's a very good scenario.

If the preflop raiser calls, against a calling range of QQ+, KQ and AQ, you have just over 40% equity. Obviously this will change on whether UTG has a flush draw too, but because he's a shortstack and basically all in already, and I'm lazy, I'm just working off this.

He doesn't need to cbet/fold many hands at all to make a shove a money making move here. I agree you don't have as much fold equity as in online games or whatever but you do have some.

There is also 75 in the pot when it gets back to you, and villain has 125 behind. What's the plan if you call? Check/fold a blank turn? I hate that. If you lead the flop and get raised, you're calling because of your equity, but I'd much rather CRAI and have fold equity, however small. Another factor is that even if you hit, you may not get paid had you check-called the flop, cos your hand looks like a flush draw.

I really think the main point of the hand is preflop though. You don't need to play A4s OOP, you end up losing chips a lot of the time when you miss, then you end up playing draws OOP a lot too, which is horrible. Just fold preflop, you even got two chances to do that!

Play the drawing hands in position. UTG+1 is not the place to do it. Open raise further around, or maybe call a raise in CO or button. A live 1/1 game in Dublin is a game you can play ultra straightforward in, and get the money. It doesn't feel like poker-playing but the best poker is taking advantage of other people's weaknesses, and in those games you get money by having all your big hands paid off. Don't do marginal stuff.

What? Maybe I'm just not very clever but I understand very little of this, for example:How do you check raise all in and still have fold equity?

He is just saying that the villains stack is so short that you have very little chance of making him fold.

Without any reason other than basic lack of reading ability, I just now realised that the flop was 4-way rather than HU + shortstack. Van Dice = idiot.

? The only way you have FE is by raising

    fold equity?
folding equity for want of a better way of explaining it, is basically the equity you gain from pots from opponents folding.

Well Lads, I was the villain in said hand and I had KK. I posted it in reverse as I couldn't understand him c/r with the bare flush draw and wanted to see if by any "higher level of thinking" this made sense.

    Cheers
