    I'm rather confused, and hope I'm posting this in the right place. I'm heading off next Friday, for my first holiday in fifteen years and taking my teenage daughter with me. We're flying monarch airlines to Crete. I've been reading all the rules and regulations on what you can and cannott pack and I've gone and confused myself!!:confused::confused:
    Some articles say you must carry all electrical items in your hand luggage. Does that mean my travel iron, battery chargers, batteries and phone chargers? Or, can any or all of these go in the hold luggage??

    As I said, I'm not a seasoned traveller and the last time I went away, you could basically take the kitchen sink, all the new rules and regs are really confusing:confused::confused:

    I'd really appreciate the help of the more seasoned travellers out there, Please?

    There isn't much really that isn't allowed in checked baggag that can be carried on board, some airlines ban mobile phones and anything else with radio transmitters from checked-in baggage.

    Apart from that there is the usual banned list of dangerous items (anything flammable, explosive, corrosive etc.) which you cannot take at all.

    Anything sharp and liquids (including lipsticks and other such things that aren't liquid) should be checked in unless you really need them on-board in which case they must be in containers of less than 100ml and presented seperately at security in a see-through plastic bag.

    Make sure to keep any valuables in your carry-on bag or leave them at home.

    Also to cut down on hassle going through security (and to avoid getting felt up by the drones) don't wear anything with substantial metal parts, a zip or a few buttons are usually just about okay but the more metal you have on the more likely the detector will register high. Put all metal/electronic items in your bag or coat pockets and put your coat through the x-ray scanner.

    The website of your airline should have a precise list of what is not allowed on-board.

    Edit: Here is the list from the Monarch website http://www.flymonarch.com/cnt/travelinfo/baggage.asp :

    what can't you take in your baggage?

    dangerous goods

    For the safety of all our passengers, Monarch restricts certain articles from passengers' hand baggage and hold baggage, as well as strictly prohibiting certain items for carriage onboard the aircraft.

    The following items are strictly prohibited from either hand or hold baggage

    * flammable materials e.g. lighter/heater fuels, petrol, paint, thinners, non-safety matches and fire lighters
    * oxidising materials such as lighter or heater fuels
    * oxidising materials such as bleaches and peroxides
    * poisons such as arsenic, weed killers and insecticides
    * corrosives, alkalis and wet cell batteries i.e. filled car batteries
    * etiologic agents (bacteria, viruses etc.)
    * radio-active materials
    * firearms
    * explosives, fireworks, flares, toy gun caps, party poppers
    * compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable and poisonous) e.g. butane, and including culinary blowtorches, butane powered travel irons, camping or compressed gas cylinders, tear gas, mace or CS gas devices, butane powered gas curlers (prohibited unless a safety cover is supplied and is firmly in place) - separate re-fills are not allowed
    * oxygen and chemical oxygen generators.
    * magnetised materials
    * offensive and irritating materials
    * apparatus containing mercury may only be carried as cargo
    * cooking oil

    what can you take in your baggage?

    hold baggage only

    The following items can be stowed in hold baggage, but are strictly prohibited from hand baggage:

    * toy or replica guns
    * catapults
    * razor blades
    * knives with blades of any length
    * scissors
    * nail clippers
    * cutlery
    * hypodermic syringes (except for medical use during flight - doctor's certificate required)

    hand baggage only

    The following items can be carried in hand baggage but are strictly prohibited from hold baggage:

    * mobile phones and radio transmitters - may not be used onboard any aircraft.
    * laptop computers - may be carried as hand baggage as part of normal allowance, providing that the laptop - including case - does not exceed the maximum hand baggage.
    * Laptops may be used onboard the aircraft, except during take-off and landing, and must be used off-line). Please note: for safety reasons, laptops must be carried beneath the seat and not in the overhead lockers.
    * Lighters (purchased in departure lounge only) and a single box of safety matches.

    Thanks for that John, I really do appreciate it. So to make myself appear even more ditzy, it would be alright to put the iron and batteries (chargable aaa) and phone chargers into the suitcase? Providing of course that we have the weight right. And, if the weight isn't right, it would be equally ok to put them in the carry on.

    Again, thanks for all your help and for the link, for some reason I couldn't find that on the monarch site:(

    sh
