Right now an alternative therapist, a Sinn Fein councillor and a Tarot card reader are discussing the pressing issues of the day! :D

Having dumbed down in preparation, Newstalk blossomed into a disappointment when it went national. It is approaching uselessness.

Well the waffle radio we hear today is a result of going national alright. We don't just need hard current affairs though, we need factual programs, science, arts and historical. We need a channel akin to BBC radio 4 in Ireland.

Something that would highlight Irish issues, such as documentaries that cover aspects of our history, other than English occupation and programs about Irish contributions to art and literature as well as scientific discovery.

It seems as though we only want to cover issues such as crime, abortion debates and 1916/Northern Ireland. :(

We need a station that does so much more and isn't jsut light entertainment. Unfortunately that means Government funding because advertisers won't pay for that.

I've been banging on about a BBC4 approach for years, but as you note it costs and advertsing won't shell out to be heard on such programmes.

Newstalk is'nt all bad. While LNL is clearly low quality there's pickings to be had at the weekend early on and once the sun starts setting.
