Any ideas?

This probably isn't the best place for this but I need as many ideas as possible. I have to come up with a simple cocktail or punch that can be made in large-ish amounts, for a work event.

Nothing with fruit, leaves or anything of the likes, just alcohol and fruit juice! It's going to go in a cooler drum. I'd like something a bit out of the ordinary though, i.e. a bit more imaginative than Sex on the Beach! Any mixture of alcohol will do, vodka, rum, gin, whiskey etc. Also, I'm working with a specific range of products. It's quite extensive but forget the obscure brands!

    Any ideas greatfully received!

Cosmo's are nice.... not too sweet. Involves vodka, triple sec/cointreau, lime juice and cranberry juice.

Or just something simple like peach schnapps with orange juice and cranberry juice or whatever other alcohol you'd like in there- be creative! :D

What about sangria? Easy to make and not so expensive. ** Oops, you did say no fruit BUT it is so cheap..

    Google the net for recipes.

Cosmos would be great but unfortunately this will be drank out of plastic cups, so probably not the best combo!

I did think of going down the sangria route, but it would have to be really good sangria and would also mean a lot of wine. And the fruit, so scrapped that...

    Thanks though :D

Sean, what's the "sour mix" part?

When I make Long Island Ice Tea I use some orange juice with a generous dash of lemon juice for the sourness.

I've never worked out what the bottles of "sour mix" were that I've seen them using in bars in the States.

Also, aren't you supposed to include an orange liqueur too, like Triple Sec (or Cointreau)?
I don't always have the right spirits beyond vodka and gin, so I substitute brandy which I find works well with the orange+lemon juice I add.

    OK, simple enough then.
The straight lemon juice I use is close enough anyway!

    Thanks for the info!

Was at a cocktail party recently, I was disgusted to see lots of drink being poured away.
Long Island Ice Tea, make it a night to remember

That one all went down the sink expect for about 2. I have only met one person ever who likes tequila, never knew it until the party, and she had all the menus made up, so tequila on about half the recipies.

All the ones with gin were not touched either, I do not know a single person under 60 who drinks gin, and even then I know only a few. Brandy is another to avoid like the plague. Some recipes looked fine and then had the dreaded gin, I tried to get vodka substitiuted with no luck, and then had to watch it all go to waste.

Only a few batches went down with everybody. My own favourite, pineapple juice (get Marks & Spencer pressed juice, expensive but absolutelt gorgeous). So pineapple juice, a little lemon juice, triple sec (or blue curacoa, or cointreau), and good vodka. Not smirnoff red!!!!, smirnoff black if you can afford it, it is really netural, skyy if you really have cash and can find it- skyy is the king of cocktail vodkas. Otherwise absolut citron is fantastic and very neutral, you can omit the lemon juice if using absolut citron.

Regular absolut and smirnoff red, have tainted "foreshots" of the distillate added back, this gives it bite and off flavours which ruin a good cocktail, unless you are a real vodka fan.

I love my rum but would not force my preferences on a big communal cocktail.

I would leave it mixed like that, and leave pineapple juice, soda water, and 7-up available for people to dilute accordingly, I like my cocktails medium strong.

Never mix soda or fizzy drinks into a premade cocktail, they go flat really fast and people will end up ditching them. Pour small glasses too to stop wastage.

People will not believe the taste of pressed pineapple juice, it is disgracefully nice.

Thanks all. The one I made went down really well in the end, a bit too well maybe! Turned into quite a wild night.

Cocktail was quite girly but definitely packed a punch ;)
