    Seems good thanks. Handy for me to learn how to use newsgroups before splashing out on a better server.

    Speeds about ~250kB/sec when I increased the number of connections in GrabIt to 8.

    They have a speed test here: http://www.xentech.net/speedtest//download.php

    I think the website (which is mostly Dutch) says binary retention is 30 days, from what I can make out.

    Recommend signing up to http://www.newzbin.com which indexes all posts into categories. Such as DVD/DivX/Games/MP3 etc. You can also download NZB's from newzbin which is really handy once you have an account.

    I once saw my friend in college downloading off newsgroups, but it seemed to be all web-based (ie- no newsreader software).

    Anyone know what this might have been? Maybe a service offered by his Usenet access provider?

    Could have been easynews, they have a web interface that allows you to setup download queues. Its very handy actually :)

    Argh! Does anyone know if there's a free newsgroup program that makes it easy to search groups?

    I've got Grabit but it seems to have a limit on the searches you can do and also doesn't seem to list any more than one page of any one newsgroups articles. Very annoying.
