Anyone know what work is being done on Whelans?

I see u:mack's gig on Sept 18th is the re-opening of Whelans, anyone know what they're doing?

Think they were expanding the upstairs area, putting in a new bar up there too. And making a more seperate area for the acts. If your subscribed to ireland.com, there was something about it last week I think, cant remember which day to be specific though. If you can search the archive, type in The Point, it was under that, mentioning three main venue closures. Whelans was included.

I remember that article - they're slightly exapanding the downstairs venue. The area upstairs where the toilets and backstage rooms were are being turned into a deparate 120 person venue. IIRC they were also moving the smoking area elsewhere and expanding the front bar out that direction.

they're doing up the main part of the venue too. the stage is being widened, an actual backstage area being put in. new PA and lights. whole place being better sound proofed

maybe by having the second venue upstairs it'll stop the numpties who come in and yabber away at the bar during the whole gig? or worse those who stand beside me yabbering and who get offended when i ask them to shut the duck up:mad:

Yeah, that was the artice I ws trying to remember. Are there any gigs in the Point scheduled for this month, or is it just the boxing fight and thats it? I'm gonna miss the annual pre-REading/Leeds gig at the Point.
