Buying a newtube amp - what I played today

Hey all. Looking to get my first tube amp and wondering if anyone opinions on the following amps or any suitable alternatives

    Fender Deluxe

First amp I played - VERY impressed with the clean channel (optional bright toggle, both sounding really smooth and clear) Distortion channel not so much - was fairly muddy sounding and even with almost full treble and presence wasnt trebly enough for crunchy rhythm

Only unusual aspect of the amp is that the reverb is a bit metallic or something, and even with it set completely off ya can still here a bit of verb. For cleans thats grand, but with the distortion channel its a little odd (barely noticable tbh, but still)

    Vox AC 30 CC

Right, first off - WHY would you write all the knob information etc facing the BACK of the amp? Anyways was the twin speaker model - clean was very nice (maybe not quite as nice as the fender tho). However the design seems to be set up so its a "distortion with increasing volume only" kind of amp - with our band practising in a small shed this could be a problem. Very much liked the built in tremolo

    Framus Ruby Riot

Lastly played through a Riot twin. Cleans were savage (bit of a trend here with the tube amps) However the distortion at low volume is pretty poor (granted its supposed to be turned up loud to distort, but doesnt really suit me)

Out of the 3 I'm leaning toward the fender - its the cheapest and has the nicest clean. I'm under the impression (delusion?) that with a solid clean tone you can grab distortions from pedals (have a few of them alright)

The Fender is coming in at 850, and not really looking to spend more than a grand or so

If you have a nice overdrive pedal (tubescreamer etc), then you can certainly add a bit of push and grit to a clean channel.

If you're talking about going further and using a distortion box to completely generate a heavily distorted tone through a clean amp, well, personally i'd try and find an amp that had a good distortion itself, even if it costs a few $ more.

As RHCP says, try and be more specific with your style and needs and im sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.
