    Hi

At the moment I have one wireless DSL modem hooked to the phone line upstairs. Reception downstairs is a quite bad but there is a 2nd working phone connector (same landline). Is it possible to connect a 2nd wifi DSL modem to the connector downstairs (don't have one yet but willing to buy) in order to have downstairs properly covered?

No. you can not do that.

You'll have to either run a network cable from upstairs to downstairs and then have another accesspoint there or use powerline adapters instead of the network cable.

Have you experimented at all with the placement downstairs to see if the signal can be improved?
