    Poor Fella,

It amazes me the lengths the south africans will go to with their scams...

You can kind of believe the love bit until he's promised 42k in gold bars!

I thought that would have struck a chord!

    Thoughts?

Moral of the story; The internet will get you kidnapped by Africans.

He's a moron. Utter utter * infinity moron.

I deal with these chaps on a regular basis.

I'd be willing to suggest that he's already browsing internet sites for the next love of his life. I've no pity for him.

Just posting to see if I'm the first one to point out that in happened in Mali and not South Africa.

Edit: Wooo. Although someone else will no doubt point this out.

Also, while reading the story to yourself, do it in an australian accent. It's slightly funnier.

Wow, muggers dont even need to go outside anymore, just advertise online and wait for the muggee to come to you, even if it is several thousand miles and involves crossing three or four continents.
Is there anything the internet can't do?

I don't think that ruthless bastards who prey on the weak should ever be excused because of the gullibility of their victims. So what if the guy's not that bright? He could still be a nice, decent person. The same cannot be said for his kidnappers.

So just because the guy is a bit gullible means he deserves to be held hostage fearing for his life?

A bit? And yeah, darwinism ftw imo. And don't be too caring for him. A large number of them are dirty fvckers who can't score a woman in their own country so meet these girls online and start sending them money with the aim to bring them to wherever so they can have their way with them.

Got nothing to do with liking foreign women and more to do with preying on their poverty however they/the gangs usually have the last laugh when the fool realises he has been had. This is extreme.... Ususally it involves the man sitting in heathrow for the day waiting for his "GF" to get off the plane from Russia.....

What are you complaining about, he now has a chance of winning this year's Darwin Award, how many other awards do you think he's been nominated for before. Should be a big event for him. ;)

Seriously though, they really need to require people to do some sort of course before letting them at the internet, help them spot the frauds as some people are just too simple to leave them too it without giving them some sort of decent warning.

    There's one born every minute...
And there's five born every minute to give out about him on internet forums...

It works the other way too. I've been in internet cafes in South East Asia and seen young girls with 15 or 20 yahoo chat windows open at the same time, with the brother or father doing the chatting as often as not, since the girls often don't have great English. Its a respected and promoted cottage industry in the Philippines to bilk money out of "wealthy" (usually some poor lonely chump living on his pension) or desperate foreigners. I've actually had arguments with parents of these kids when I tried to explain to them how wrong it is - they see it as a perfectly legitimate pastime. Africa is a different story though, a good deal more dangerous.
