How to get an extra/replacement garage fob/remote/transmitter?

    Hi all,

Myself and the girlfriend share a car and car space in a garage under our apartment in Dublin city centre. We each have our own keys for the car, but have to share the remote/fob for the car space, which is a major pain in the rear. The remote control is a Telcoma Tango 2 Slim. I've asked my landlord for another remote - he keeps fobbing me off (pun intended) - he either doesn't have another, can't get another, or doesn't want us to have another.

So anyway, I've seen them for sale on a few foreign websites, but I'm wondering how they can be programmed? Or will any universal fob do the trick? My one broadcasts at 433.92 MHz, and apparently has 1M+ combinations. I've seen other fobs that have 10-12 physical switches that can be turned on/off to generate the correct signal, but my current fob is just a circuit board with no (apparent) means of programming it.

Anyone got any ideas or experience with anything similar?

    Thanks,

    Paul.

You might get a decent response in the Gardening/DIY forum - I've seen post about electric gates in the past.

Maybe you could try the manufacturer. I don't know a whole lot about these things but I'm sure you're current transmitter code could be copied.

Is it made by this shower > http://www.autogatepsr.co.uk/cat43_1.htm

I can't remember the make, but one model I got reprogrammed required access to a programmed keyfob, and a code to put the gates into "learning mode".

Generally it is impossible to reprogramme them without access the the control panel for the gate.

Ring the Complex's management company and ask them for a replacement. That's what I done. There are many different encoding mechanisms used to control the electronic gate and unless you get the exact one you won't be successful.

    Hi all,

Thanks a lot for the replies. I think we'll have to keep sharing the same zapper, I don't think it can be cloned too easily.

EvoJack - I think the number you gave is too short?

    Regards,

    Paul.

Sounds like the one you have is on a rolling code, i.e. it transmits a different code each time so that it can't be cloned.
Does it open a gate, a garage door or a barrier?

Why don't you leave the fob in the car?

IF you look unde the battery cover, there mot likely is a series of switches. Get onto the manufacturer. Buy a new one. When it arrives, set the switches as per the existing one.

    Hey presto!

Hi again, well, I don't want to leave it in the car, as I'm sure that's the first place thieves look.

Hmm, there are no switches, see my original post...

Is the car park not secure?
I'd leave it in the car and if not ask the Apartment Block Mgmt Co. I was told "By law they have to give you access"

leave it in the car. if somebody wants to steal your car they won't mind waiting for somebody else to come along and open the gate so they can get out. the glovebox, ashtray or anywhere else not visible from the outside will be fine.

Looks like it. I think it should be 1890 762227 (1890 RM-A-CAR). Formerly RM Distribution, now Motorminder/Motormedia.

I'm also looking for a extra remote for an apartment gate in Dublin. I can see that my existing remote has 8 dip switches that can be toggled on and off. So all I need do is but a "blank" set the dip switches and off I go. Rang the management company got the name of the supplier and they promptly quoted me 80 euro by cheque or postal order (???) with no commitment to a delivery date.

A quick browse on the web suggests that I can get most blanks for 20 USD. Which goes to show what kind of a margin the Irish supplier is making. I think I'm going to invest a bit of time myself and save that 60 + euro.

I'm now going out to inspect the gate motor to figure out the manufacturers name and the model number.
